If We Don’t Laugh, We’ll Cry

In April 2026, supporters gathered at The Tobias Theater at Newfields for “If We Don't Laugh We'll Cry”, a fundraiser featuring comedian, activist, and co-creator of The Daily Show, Lizz Winstead.

The evening brought sharp wit and urgent truth to the fight for reproductive healthcare access in Indiana. Winstead has spent years using comedy as a weapon against the forces working to strip bodily autonomy from millions of Americans. In a state with a near-total abortion ban, the laughter in the room carried the full weight of what is at stake.

Winstead reminded the crowd that humor is not a retreat from the fight, it is a survival strategy. When the laws governing your body feel absurd, sometimes the most radical act is to name the absurdity out loud, together, in a room full of people who refuse to look away.

“If We Don't Laugh, We'll Cry” was exactly what it promised to be: a night of community, catharsis, and commitment to ensuring every person in Indiana has the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions. Because if we stop laughing, we might just remember how much we have to cry about, and that is not an option.
