BOARD MEMBER

Cynthia Johnson

Cynthia Johnson works as a political consultant. She has been active in an advisory capacity and held senior level positions on local, state and federal campaigns.  She is also active in the Indiana Democratic Party and was the Fifth District Congressional Chair. Most recently, she served as Finance Director for Destiny Well’s campaign for Attorney General.  Prior to that, she was Campaign Manager for Miles Nelson’s Carmel mayoral campaign. While he did not prevail, they raised a record amount of money for a Democrat running in a municipal race in Hamilton County, had the highest ever voter turnout for a municipal election there and recruited a broad coalition of volunteers. Cynthia was also Nelson’s campaign manager for his 2019 successful city council campaign when he was elected the first-ever Democrat to Carmel’s City Council. She previously served as Political Director for 5th District Congressional candidate Christina Hale and chaired an advocacy arm of U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly’s 2018 re-election campaign.

Cynthia’s political involvement began volunteering on the 2016 coordinated campaign for the election of former U.S. Senator Evan Bayh, and the Indiana Democratic gubernatorial ticket of John Gregg and Christina Hale. Subsequent to the 2016 campaign, she became an Organizing for Action Fellow because she wanted to be better equipped to work toward getting Democrats, especially women, elected and in positions of power to effect change. She continued this work by helping found the Democratic city clubs which are now flourishing in Carmel, Fishers, Westfield and Noblesville in Hamilton County. In 2018, Cynthia was selected to be a member of the inaugural class of Hoosier Women Forward, a political and civic leadership training program for Democratic women. In 2019, Cynthia was named the Indiana Democratic Party’s Activist of the Year.

Beginning her career as a litigation associate at a large firm in Chicago, Cynthia also worked as in-house counsel for Inland Steel in Chicago and for CSX Corporation in Baltimore. Since moving to Indiana, she has been involved in many volunteer organizations in a leadership capacity, including serving on a number of community boards. Cynthia grew up outside of Chicago and was raised on the importance of being involved in your community. She graduated from the University of Michigan and received her JD from the University of Illinois. She and her husband have 4 children and live in Carmel.
