Liane Hulka

Liane is a lifelong, seventh-generation Hoosier with roots tracing back to Tipton, Rush, and St. Joe counties. She is regularly sought for political advice and takes pride in her extensive, statewide relationships in the political and civic sector built over years of experience. She served in the last-elected Democratic Governor’s administration as an O'Bannon Fellow in 2001. Liane is a proud double IU grad. At IU Maurer School of Law, Liane explored the intersection between law & policy by leading the American Constitution Society's IU Student Chapter, later starting a chapter for Indiana lawyers.

Liane began her legal career as a litigation associate for Bingham McHale, LLP (Now Dentons, LLP) and later worked in the Indiana General Assembly as Assistant Majority Counsel for the Indiana House Democrats from 2007-08. In 2008, she took a hiatus from practicing law to manage a successful IN State House campaign in a (once) highly competitive district.

Liane loves to build necessary civic and political infrastructure where there is a need. In 2017, Liane proudly co-founded Hoosier Women Forward, Inc., a political and civic leadership program designed to create a robust network of diverse Democratic women and prepare them for leadership in public service.  Liane served a four-year term as the Fifth District Congressional Chair for the Indiana Democratic Party where she helped to lay the Party groundwork for historic local election wins in both Boone & Hamilton counties.  Liane is also the co-founder of the nonprofit Vote Safe Indiana, advocating for greater enfranchisement among voting Hoosiers during the COVID-19 crisis where she was able to spearhead, collaborate and implement Indy Vote Times in Marion County, a website designed to allow voters to know the wait times at voting locations to better plan their vote. She is also a proud co-founder of Indiana Reproductive Freedom PAC.

Liane is passionate about keeping public education public through democratically elected school boards. Most recently, she served as Board Chair for the Washington Township Schools Foundation.  She also enjoys advising candidates and nonprofits through her work at Monon Strategy Group, LLC. She has been a political commentator for Fox-59, WISH-TV, and WTHR.
